Default Supra NEWBIE!

HI guys, just picked up an '85 w/ the 6mge engine. I had a couple overheating probs on the way home, but i think i fixed that by replacing the water in the radiator with coolant. My question is; is this common with the 6m? My other question is will exhaust headers for a 5m work on the 6m? I also have been looking for a short throw shifter, the original just flops around WAY to much for me. I am still searching through the faqs and threads, but if you can give me a few key search words to help me out that would be great. Thanks alot folks.
P.S.-Happy to be a supra owner.

Welcome to the Mk2 headache..No just joking..Pretty much everything from the 5MGE and 6MGE are identicle except the crank and timing gear..If the car hasnt been tened to on a regular basis you might start your prevenitive maint. ..Like thermostat, fan clutch, flush and burp cooling system..If it continues to over heat try the IAC valve,Then if it continues you might have a cracked head or leaking head gasket..Keep us posted and good luck..

That and has anyone found a short throw shifter for less than $300? I am in the army, and taking college classes, so i only get weekends with my baby. Thanks again guys

A buddy of mine had a mk3 supra (87) and he took it to the greg's jap auto in kent/auburn. they took care of his care really well. He sold his mk3 recently for a mr2 turbo, he took that to the greg's in puyallup and they didn't clamp down the boost hose correctly and it fell off while he was driving down the highway, taking some of the years off of the turbo, as it spooled all the way up. So I guess it just really depends on your area and the mechanics that are working at the shop. but, I wouldn't take anything to the gregs in puyallup, had an 82 accord and they didn't fix the timing nor could they figure out that the transmission was shot.
