Please help.
I am new here and I am in desperate need of some expert help. I own an early 1986 Supra which gave out on me while I was driving it on the freeway 2 weeks agao. What happened was that out of the blue while it was running nicely, it started choking and loosing power. Fortunately, I was able to get it to crawl off the freeway to a safe place to park. From that point on, I have not been able to get it to run. It would idles okay but if I step on the gas peddle, the engine would loose power and dies. My friend suggested that I should check for cracks and vacuum leaks . So I checked the air intake hose (the hose that is connected to the air filter and the air flow meter) and did not see any cracks. I also replaced the existing airflow meter with a different one from a wrecking yard. Unfortunately, that did not seem to make any difference. I checked the wires connecting to the airflow meter and found it to be working. I say it is working because when I unplugged it while the engine was idling, the engine would died. Some people also suggested that the problem could be the throttle sensor. I don't know how to find out if this sensor is working or not. However, when I unplugged the wires connecting it while the enginine is idling, nothing happened. The engine continued to idle. From this fact, I am thinking that the throttling sensor might be bad but I am not sure. Other suspects could be the gas filter or the gas pump. What is strange is that when I applied the gas very slowly, then the engine would rev up and the rpm increased to a certain point. Tthen the engine would choked and lose power again. When let go of the gas after that, the engine settled back to idling. During all these, the check engine light came on. This is an old car I have bought when I started going to college. I don't think it is worth taking it to the dealer for repair. Thus, I am trying to figure out what the problem is and repair it myself if it is not too difficult. Please help me if you know what is going on with my car. Thank you so much in advance. |

hey vanbao your best bet would be to put that into a new topic, you'll get more attention to your problem that way. Some people don't like tryng to answer and read one persons problem, and then in the middle of the same post a new topic pops up from another user about a different car.
