help please
i recently bought a 1984 celica/supra it sat for about 1 year had to replace fuel pump. But now when i come to a stop the throttle will not return back to idle unless i rev it up a few times. Also it looks like a cv joint cover in the front on the driverside which is leaking fluid badly feels like brake fluid but not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Clean that side of the engine compartment with degreeser so you can see where the leak is. You might want to spary some carb cleaner in your throttle boddy to clean the butterfly and spray your lenkages to (spelling sucks). You also might want to try to put some Beramens B-12 in your full gas tank to clean your injectors out. You can get this at any parts store.

That little cv booy you are talking about is the steering rack..So your leaking power steering fluid..
|
thanks for the help i sprayed the butterfly and the linkages. That fixed the problem with the throttle. The power steering bood is cracked. Is that just a dust cover or does that actually hold power steering fluid?
|
Thats just the dust cover, the seal in the PS rack is leaking

Glad I could be some help, but bad news on the MKII's you have to buy a new PS rack. Unlike the MKIII's youcan buy a rebuild kit. Sorry about the bad news!
Good news is that o'riely's can order them or could and the cost about $250 give or take a few $. I have the same problem with my MKII. |
when you get the job done... $$$ isnt the problem after all...
|
just the seal can't be replaced? is the seal hard to get to?
|
well that sucks i guess i will be without power steering until i get that fixed.I was hoping it was just the boot causing the problem! But i guess it is never that easy. Thanks for the info. The other ? i had was my car smells like fumes when you are slowing down to come to a stop or like if u are getting off the interstate ramp. I had an 88 mr2 that did the same thing is this a common thing or may there be something wrong with the injectors, oxygen sensor or something like that?

Dose it smell like gas? If so you have a fuel leak in your engine compartment. It is not tipical to smell fumes in the car unless you have a leak. If it dose not smell like gas you might have an exhaust leak near the engine. What kind of fuel milage do you get? You could also have a leaking injector. Pull your oil dip stick and spell the oil on it. If it smells like gas than you have a leaking injector. If you do might as well replace all 6. You can usally find them on ebay for the 5MGE. If not look for the ones for the 7MGE or 7MGTE. they are higher cc's and will fit like the 5M's injectors!

i know that the 7mgte injector... will fit.... but what about the wired... does the stock wired harness snap on without cut n re-connect the wired.... |
well I checked the oil and smelled no gas.the engine compartment does not smell like gas.I did find a bad gas cap replaced it and it still smells only when car is running. The gas mileage is probably around 23 mpg last i checked. It kinda smells like it is running way to rich.the car has 206,000 miles on it i guess i shouldn,t complain.I notice a little oil use when i start the car for the first time in the morning then clears up. I dont notice any smoke while driving though.it does not really smell like raw gas. I guess i will have to keep checking and maybe find something.

so it smell's like gas or oil... cause this might be the few things... that you might need to check... 1. check the O2 Sensor... 2. check all the exhaust gasket... might have a leak... 3. check the vaulve cell 4. double on your exhaust pipe from header to muffler... might have little tinny hoe on it.. that you might not see... 5. check afm... try to adjust to stock position... maybe you run too rich... 6. check your head see if it burn oil... hope this might help you little bit... correct me if i wrong to alright... people... |
ok thanks for all the help i will start checking all that. And take care of any problems.I will let you know how i make out.
