Cooling system question

I just bought a 1985 MKII yesterday, and it is overheating and losing all the coolant (comes out the vent on the fill neck) after a few miles on the road. I'm trying to figure out if there is supposed to be a hose attached to this nipple coming off the radiator fill neck, or if I just have a bad radiator cap. I looked around and can't see a coolant overflow tank anywhere, can someone help me out? I'm a complete noob to Supras. Thanks!

Every car has a coolant overflow bottle. You should put one on there and connect a hose to it from the fill neck. Check the coolant level in the radiator. If it is brown and/or chunky, then you'll need a radiator flush. Also check to see if the thermostat is stuck.

I found pics of where the overflow tank is supposed to be and it's not there. I'm getting a parts car this week too so I should be able to pull it off there if that one has it.

I'm learning about this car real quick....doing a head gasket swap....not fun....

I was getting exhaust gases coming out the radiator, which is why it was building pressure so quickly and venting...and emptying out the radiator...

Also, the exhaust smelled like burning coolant and burning oil.

I drained the oil and didn't see any nasty sluge that would indicate coolant in the oil, so I guess that's a good thing, and I didn't see and oil in the coolant, but the thing emptied itself out anyway so I'm not real surprised.

That upper radiator hose looks kinda old. Squeeze it. If it crunches then you'll need a new one. If not then just go about your business, lol. Good luck. How'd u figure out exhaust gases were coming out of the radiator?

Pulled the cap off the radiator and let the car idle for a few minutes, then I started getting bubbles out the cap, and I could smell fuel when I got close to the fill neck.

Anyway, here's the car. I didn't see an introduction section of the forum, so this will have to do. Bought it for $950, and I get a free parts car too, this thing is in damn good condition for how old it is.

Here's my other ride too, my 01 Chevy Silverado. I had a 6.0L supercharged motor in it but it's broke, and I'm working on building a 408 for it that will eventually get a nice turbo setup, probably somewhere around 15 psi. I'll be shooting for the 700-800 hp range, and hopefully low 11's or so in the 1/4.

Once the truck is done and I recover from the huge financial drain, I want to put and LS1 or LS2 with a 6-speed into the Supra. I think that would be pretty badass.

Well I've been slowly working on the car, and found that the cylinder head was eroded away in a few places. Luckily the parts car had an engine with a good head on it, so I'm working on getting that one installed. Just haven't had a lot of time to mess with it unfortunately.
