Has anyone here had any problems with their Mk2's ecu (car's computer)? My car has a little stutter in lower rpms. A while back I tested around a bit and found the ecu wasn't properly reading the tps (throttle position sensor). I tested the tps & it passed with flying colors. I checked out the readings from the ecu directly regarding the tps & it's readings were wacked. I thought about replacing it with a junkie but didn't want to bother with another old ecu if it was a common old-age symptom. Couldn't really afford a new ecu even if it was available, so I basically set-aside the whole bit and just have lived with it. I'm planning a pretty long drive in the near future so I'm trying to get her running as sweet as I can. B)
btw - anyone experimented with switching to electric fans? (someone who did) |
are u sure your wiring harness isnt grounded or wacked out??

Yeah, i would check your grounds, a lot of times on a car its not your ecu thats bad, but a bad ground. I remember when i was in school for automotive we had a vehicle that we actually ran a temp ground wire to the ecu to see if the ground was indeed the problem, and well it worked, the ground was indeed the problem. Check your grounds. You might want to go as far as taking them off one at a time if they look dirty, or rusty to where they may not be grounding right, and clean them up. Atleast then you will know your grounds are ok. Also i would did a check throughout the wiring on the car and make sure you have no corrosion anywhere other then the grounds.

hey eleazar, where are you from, if you can't figure it out, and still think its the ecu , i might be happy enough to ship you mine to try. that way atleast you will know if thats what it is or not, and let us know how your doing with checking the wiring over and everything, this way we can all brain storm and tell you where to go next.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll try them out.
