Need advise on engine swap.
I have an 83 supra project car. Its almost ready 4 paint, but i would like to get the engine in first. My problem is that im in limbo on what engine to go with. First of all its going to be a drag car. But i want it to be streetable. I started out thinking about a small block chevy engine because they are easy and cheap to build. But i don,t think it would be practical to drive on the street. And i dont want a 5m in it because there does not seem to be a lot of after market parts for it. And i have an 84 w/5m in it and i am not impressed w/it. So i was wondering about a 7m swap. I know the chevy swap will require lot of fab work. Is the 7 m a direct bolt in? What about the tranny, will need a 7m tranny or will the 5m tranny work? What about drive shaft splines& length? motor mounts? I figure from other posts here that i will need to use a 7m ecu and harness. I have considerd the 7m because it seems to be easier to buy upgrades for.

7m's are notorious for blown head gaskets and bottom end failures but are almost a direct bolt on. Motor mounts are the same, bolts to stock trans but may not hold the power for very long, you would need the oil pan off of the 5m to put on the 7m, stock drive shaft can be used, and for wiring there is a guy on www.celicasupra.com Jim king who makes a plug and play harness for this swap. I would suggest looking into the 2jz-gte swap though, more reliable engine and higher power.
