Automatic to Manual Conversion
Hi I have just bought a N/A 87 Targa here in Aussie. I am going to convert it to manual, is there anywhere a detailed description of the process.
I was told that you only need the clutch pedal etc not the whole pedad assembly, is this true. My car is like new and has 210 ks on it. |

manual conversion parts needed:
clutch pedal brake pedal clutch master cylinder clutch slave cylinder manual driveshaft manual gearbox manual bellhousing to fit your engine clutch kit to suit whatever gearbox you have clutch line to go between the master and slave cylinders and jumper the pins on the auto trannie line so it bypasses the neutral start switch (also by doing this it removes your reverse lights so you will need to wire these up separately) reason you need the brake pedal also is because the auto brake pedal is wider than the manual and gets in the way of engaging the clutch pedal good luck with your conversion and let us know how it turned out

thanks for that info, is the manual tailshaft longer or shorter than the auto one, I now all I have to do is to find all the bits.
Another question, is there any advantage of putting on headers/ extractors with a 2.5'' system or is it not worth the effort. I want to stay with my 7mge motor as is is very sweet but I want to get a bit more power, have ordered a K&N filter and plan to do a cold air duct thanks for your advise. |

dont forget the driveshafts and prop shafts. i couldn't do mine with out them. so far as the headers go, you'll gain around 10hp or if your willing to spend money, turbonetics sells the performance mainfolt to turn the 7mge to 7mgte.

From the looks of it, the Auto is comletely mechanical? There is no Auto computer? Pardon my ignorance on the matter but I'm contemplating buying an MKIII and I'm finding nothing but autos, or beat 5spds. If it's completely mechanical, then the swap will be a piece of cake.
