Anyone ever try cracked block fixer like Irontite?
I just had a new head gasket installed and head rebuilt on my 1991 Supra turbo. Runs like a charm, lots of power, but coolant is slowly disappearing. Yes, whitish steam comes out the tailpipe when it first starts up. It uses about a cup of coolant every 250 miles.
Has anyone tried using this fix the crack stuff you put into your radiator? like Irontite? Does it work on high powered engines like the 1991 supra turbo that I have? Thanks, Stan |

i would never put a stop-leak-solution in my radiator. it may fix your problem and you have just as much of a chance of it creating another. wouldnt want it clogging the radiator or any water lines do you? you can try that, tearing your engine apart, or put a cup in every 250 miles

white steam is perfectly normal on startup and for another 5-10 mins, it could be working air out of the system since the job was done. Do you have any visible leaks anywhere? I would pressure test it, and see if its leaking externally, sometimes a car will leak only when driving or its so small that you dont get any drips during the time you spend looking for them. Get a pressure tester on it and see if its leaking anywhere externally, if not take it back to whoever did the headgasket and have them fix it if they did it wrong

Did they replace the head bolts or reuse them?
Even if they used ARP moly lube at 58ft/lbs it is not enough. They probably used motor oil. Sounds like you have a choice of tearing it apart now or using that instant blown motor in a bottle and tearing it apart later with a bigger bill. Last edited by IHateHacks; 11-15-2007 at 04:33 PM. |

The problem has always been that the majority of the crack sealants break down when they come into contact with coolant.
It's rebuild time however you look at it. Unless you sell it. Wich you may get lynched for after the new owner figures it out. |

I just kept topping off the radiator and after 4 times and 300 miles later, it is holding. But I was curious if any of this block and head sealer stuff works. Hope I never have to find out. Thanks again, this is a great Supra site, very helpful. Stan |
