Default which engine swap should I perform?

Hey

I just bought an 88 supra,a non turbo, 7mge, manual. Im thinking of swapping it for a 7mgte or a 1JZGTE. Im thinking I should go for the 1JZGTE for some reason, NOT the VVt-i version though, as I hear its hard to find parts for it. So what do you guys suggest? I WILL be doing aftermarket mods for w/e the engine will be, just BPU (exhaust, dp, flywheel, maybe even turbo) Also, do either of these engine work with the W58 tranny?

Thanks in advance

Hehehe, yea the search is nice. By the way, go 7M-GTE, too much of this 1J/2J stuff, lol.

ya, I did the search, and it seems that both can make alot of hp, but that is something that I don't have to worry about, as I will DEFINITELY not go above ~330 whp. Also, I guess the availability/prices for 7mgte parts lean towards a college student. And whats this thing about the head gasket being notorious for blowing out? How hard is to replace a hg? my dad said its hard work, but he said he has never worked on supras therefore he really doesn't know.

search is MADE FOR NOOBS, therefore is makes NO sense reaching a level of 100 posts to start searching. not trying to argue with you, im trying to beat up a little on stupid supraforums.com. I think they're noob for making it so that search is limited to, as you said, ppl who have at least 100 posts. ridiculous

Thats great hand and it has absolutely nothing to do with an engine swap.

To answer a previous Q. No. the w series drive train will not work with either the 1j or any gt series engine.
330 hp would be nice in a supra. But if that's all you want.
Turboing may not be the solution. Because it will create more like 400 hp.

I guess you can go with something smaller than a t26 to get you close to your goal hp.

Wiring harness, ecu. You will be needing to get the right gear for your engine series.

The blown head gasket or bhg as we call it. Has either already happened or will happen soon after you put some miles on it.

If you mechanic it yourself. 2grand and some extra new parts. arp studs. walbro fuel pump. msd blastercoil. msd wired, iridium plugs. k&n filter.
Eibach springs and some tems capable shocks. The the body work and paint.

But all of that comes after you get her running. 88 means you can interchange some parts from 87 to 89. Same basic pattern for that model.

You won't hit 330 hp on an N/a car. But you can get close to 300hp Wich is decent given the sled that she'll be.

i mean 330 hp for a 7mgte or a 1jz, which it seems that i will be going for a 7mgte.

Also, then what tranny WILL work with a 7mgte??
