Default MK4 tranny swap

Is it possible to swap a MK4 transmission into a MK3? If so, has anyone actually attempted this?

Everything is possible.
Are you trying to use the getrag 6 speed with your current 7m engine?
As far as I know that is not possible, I was told by a mechanic familiar with these cars, that to swap in a 2jz, you have to have the getrag 6 speed, so I would assume the opposite is also true.

anything can be done woth money but people mainly just go with r154.

pretaco that is false, a lot here in socal have 2jz mk3's what you do is you get r154 with a 1jz bellhousing since 1jz's came with r154's and all jz engines have the same bolt pattern. you can put a getrag v160 in a mk3 but its just too much work for an overpriced transmission

Cool, so maybe my 2jz swap is feasible.
Thanks for the info.

i recently swpped a 2jz into a nissan s14
due to tranny tunnel clearance issues we used
a r154 transmission
all we needed was use a 1jz bellhousing
so reverse the process
put a r154 bellhousing on a getrag trans
and it can be used to mate to a 7m motor
thats what im planning soon, if i can come up with 3000 dollars

I don't think the Getrag has a removable bell housing. Does it?

can it? does anyone know if the getrag has a removable, belhousing?
cuz if the 1jz bellhousing that can be used with the 2jz, and can also be mated with the r154,
and adapter plate is feasible,
if they can put a chevy trans into a toyota
why not another toyota trans into another toyota?

I took the liberty of googling pics of getrag transmissions......

and....

and...

did not find any with removable bellhousings.
So, the 1jz/2jz swap works with the 1jz bellhousing and r154, but the getrag 6 speed swap doesn't work without a 1jz or 2jz.

For those of you that don't like to read:
r154 + 1jz bellhousing + 1jz/2jz =

getrag 6speed + 7mgte =

Ray.
