Default AC panel question

My Supra has the AC wherein I can use the up and down arrows to set the temperature I want (I think everyone has the same AC.)

I am trying to figure out what makes the arrows backlit. They aren't always on; sometimes the up arrow is lit, other times the down arrow is lit. I don't recall them both being lit at the same time. I didn't see anything in the owners manual explaining this.

Can someone enlighten me?

There are tiny LEDs inside the buttons. Mine does the same thing. I decided NOT to mess with it, because disturbing things could cause BIGGER problems.

I think you misunderstood. I think they are working fine, what I am trying to understand is what makes the up vs down arrow come on. It has something to do with the actual temperature vs the temperature setting but what I can't deduce is what an arrow showing means.

Those are just the lights, letting you know that if you push this one, the temp goes up, and that one, the temp goes down. The lights have NOTHING to do with the actual function of the system.

If that is the case, can you please explain the behavior I observed this morning? When I got in my car the outside temperature was about 33F. From my drive home last night the AC was set on 71. When I started the car, the ^ in the "make it warmer" button was illuminated. After a while (probably half an hour) the car had completely warmed up, the ^ went dark. I tried increasing and decreasing the temperature set on the AC to the extremes of 65 and 85 but nothing *I* do will make it come on.

Let's not forget we are messing with atleast 15 yr old cars.
Wire connections get a bit frazelled and sometimes need to be re-connected.

I read somewhere, It may have been here about the wires for the console needing to be re-sauldered. Now it wasn't the ac buttons. But all of that behind hat dash is probably in need of attention.

As Mr. Nickleye said. Messing with these things can most certainly cause you more work than its worth.

All of our ac buttons and shite work funny or off and on or not at all.
