speedometer drive gear removal
Hello,
Since a stuck speedometer cable caused the white plastic speedometer drive gear in the auto tranny to get ground up to bits i decided to replace it. I removed the tranny mount, then i unscrewed the cable to the straight metal pipe bit that goes into the tranny. Now i could see the gearshaft of the gear with the keyslot, so i removed the bolt that keeps a small locking tab in place against the housing. That's where i got stuk, do i remove the housing now? And how? I tried wigling it but it won't budge. |

Okay, i found it myself, if you stick a chissel or flathead screwdriver in the slot on the side of the housing, you can lever it out of the gearbox.
The thing was my gear seemed to be ok, still put the new one in, but it turns out the ellbow bend piece of the cable itself was broken. Oh well, the tranny support is still off and the car is sitting there untill i get that part. |
