tranny

how do i know which tranny do i have on my 7mgte and can i use it with a 1jz

To figure out what type of tranny you have, follow these simple steps:

1. Walk out to your car.

2. Unlock and open the door.

3. Look at the shifter, it should be located in between the two front seats, sticking up out of a bunch of plastic and vinyl trim pieces.

4. Read the lettering on and near the shifter: If it says 1-2-3-4-5-R, on the top of the shifter it is a MANUAL. If it says P-R-N-D-2-1 to the left of the shifter, it is an AUTOMATIC.

5. You can also tell by counting the pedals, checking for a dipstick, or looking at it.

If you have a manual, its the r154, automatic is a540e.

A 1jz bellhousing is required to use the r154 with the 1jz or 2jz engine.

I liked it also but if it would have been I that said you cats would have flamed me so I just let it slide.

That's right up there with going to a supra forum to ask about your mitsubishi or some shite.

fixed.

7mge-auto a340e/manual w58
7mgte-auto a340e/manual r154
1jz bellhousing needed for r154 or an mk4 2jzge bellhousing for w58 on a 1jz or 2jz

Pretaco 01-28-2008 02:50 PM

OOPS!

a540e is newer, a340e is correct.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Ray.

p.s. why would you want a w58 on a 2jz? That seems like it would be pretty unreliable. From what I've heard the w58 won't even hold up to the 7mgte.

supramacist 01-28-2008 08:32 PM

The w58 is a fine tranny so long as you respect the 400hp rating.
The r154 is supposed to be rated at 1000hp.

What kind of supra are you really building???

oowee623 01-28-2008 10:36 PM

w58 came with manual 2jzge

supramacist 01-29-2008 02:21 AM

The w58 is not a 6 speed tranny.

mkiiisupra 01-29-2008 02:50 AM

If i had the money to blow i think i would stick a 6 speed automatic transmission in, however no idea how i would ever get it to work... Any ideas? ZF Transmission

Or perhaps the 8 speed? lol ZF Develops New 8 Speed Automatic Transmission - HorsePowerSports

Or a CVT type transmission
