Compression Test
Finally got around to doing one of these, was scared to becuase couldnt really be sure of the quality of job the shop did on my engine. I got 160 across the board.
Are those normal values? Seems like my engine is in good shape :x: |
Perhaps i did the test wrong? idk tsrm says 142? heh. i cranked the engine about 7 times on each cylinder, all hit 160 at 6th crank if i remember right and 7th was to make sure didnt rise ne more.
Forgot to check 1st jump of needle, pretty sure it was 90 on each one. would have to do again to be sure Should probably get one of those kits that lets u start the car while looking at engine bay would of made life easier Also was done on a cold engine, dont know if this makes a diff but didnt notice it was supposed to be at operating temp untill i had it apart lol |
Do you hot rod it cold or at operating temp???
I would do it cold and warm. |
not sure what u mean... But i did the test cold ill prolly do again later at op temp and be sure to check first surge of hte needle. how long do you crank it just for like a sec then let off and do again right?
Ohhh, i make sure she is fully warmed up before i let her boost at all. |
You only let the engine crank 1 rotation.
If it were me I would do it at operating temp which the tsrm states..., takes 20 minutes at idle is required for optimum operating temperature. |
ya i just noticed it after i took off the intake and spark and thorttle body lol
|
Redid the compression test these are the numbers i go
Cylinder #| First needle movement | Max Compression | 1 | 80 | 171 2 | 90 | 170 3 | 80 | 173 4 | 80 | 171 5 | 80 | 176 6 |80 | 171 |
Make sure you disable fuel and hold throttle at wot (unless you had to remoce the throttle body to get to theplugs anyways. Excessive compression can be cause by many things such as carbon buildup in the cylinders or just have the head shaven down enough
|
bah. looks like i will be doing another test lol
Cant seem to do it right, forgot to open throttle up >.< How do you disable the fuel? |
bump. do i just pull the EFI fuse to disable the fuel system?
