Easy Way to Change Air Filter
Has anyone figured out a simple way to change the stock air filter on a turbo? Seems the only way is to disconnect all the hoses starting at the turbo inlet, and work toward the front. Too bad it can't be done by removing one simple wingnut.

LOL yeah thats pretty much the only way to do it. On the N/A's its pretty simlple just pop and pull. turbo, not so much.Thats why I just moved mine to a CAI (Cold Air Intake) the day I bought it, that and the FMS (Fuel Management System) were the best investments I have ever made for either of my supras.

can always buy a aftermarket filter and adaptor, then you dont need to worry about replacing the filter

Thanks for the replies. The stock setup seems to be a cold air intake, because the front plastic filter assembly picks up air from in front of the hot engine compartment. What aftermarket setup would replace that? Is a K&N unit easier to clean?
|
yes, it is easir, basically just a pull on and put on situation, however I would suggest if your going to put the K&N on is find a heat shield as putting on the K&N will pull the air filter into the engine compartment. You can actually make a heat shield but they are easy to find just google it. K&N doesnt make a full CAI intake for our cars, I had to actually go custom on mine. Went and had a pipe made that goes to just before where the stock air filter connects to the hole into the bumper and then put the K&N inside of the bumper, good air flow and protects it from water, rain etc.

Thanks. I guess I'll just take the time and replace the stock filter. I'm not about to give up the cold air for a K&N. Hope I don't break the big accordian tube---.

Ill post a pic when I get home but the way i described doing it is a pretty common mode and is considered a cold air.....
