Question over turbo
Hey I'm looking at a non-turbo supra, and yes I do want to turbo it. I've done my research, but my question is, why do we HAVE to have the 7m-gte engine? I mean i know it's got the piston oil squirters and the oil inlets and outlets, but why do we need to have it? My last car was totaled when my friend t-boned me, but it was an ford escort zx2 that I turboed. I know that they don't have oil squirters in the pistons, and that they don't have the inlets and outlets so what's the difference? If I wanted could I basicly put the turbo and piping on, run my lines, get a custom chip burned and tunned, then it should be ok right? or is there something I'm missing?

*IF* you didn't use the turbo much, and kept the boost low, you *might* get away with it. But Toyota figured that in "normal" use, the pistons would get too hot w/o the extra oil, etc. Then you have to figure out how to oil the turbo itself, and your NA compression ratio is really too high.
Look up the yield strength of alum. alloys and notice how fast it drops vs temp. Around 350-400 deg. F it's HALF of what it is at room temp. Why destroy a good NA engine? Sell your car and buy a REAL turbo car.

well I would but I can't get one cheap enough and close enough. I've only got 2500 to spend, and with that I can get a n/a and I already have the turbo pipes intercooler and lines. The turbo oil lines are nothing for me to do, my old escort didn't have a place for them so we made them. it's not hard, you just find a place already on the block that will allow you to tap into the oil supply, then you make an oil return on the oil pan and alow for gravity to drain it.
