I think the mechanic was covering his ass/ wanting more money when he told me he had to remove the pan to do it....

However i guess it depends on how these much the helicoils drill out the hole, if its too much ill prolly just remove the pan anyways to avoid drilling it out too much

I didnt mind paying him like 20-40 buts to rethread that one hole
But i will not pay him to remove pan and replace fluid etc.etc

Plus i just put brand new fluid in it Redline d4 ATF and do not feel like paying for more lol. If i have to remove pan i will be saving and reusing the fluid lol

do these pans have drain plugs? If so you can just drain the fluid and reclaim it in a few bottles. If there isnt any drain plug its kind of hard to save it and remove the pan at the same time i usually get half the fluid all over the floor lol

it has one. so wont be too bad just annoying that i have too. I mean if i was the one that had over torqued and ruined the threads then fine.... But it was some mechanic that touched her very inappropratly lol

ya don't let him work on your car again. Those holes are always easy to strip and he should know that, its the same for every car basically.

Two things worth checking before going the recoil or heliciol route.

1. If the hole isn't a blind hole ( a hole that goes through to the other side), use a piece of screwed rod or stud and secure it with a nut at each end.
2. If it is a blind hole, it could still have some good threads near the bottom of the hole. Try screwing in a longer bolt or some threaded rod.
If you do buy a recoil or heliciol kit you will probably need to buy the drill bit separate, not sure of the tyranny oil pan size, at a guess I would say M8 1.25 pitch., so you would need a 8.3 drill bit. Also don’t be surprise when you drain the box only a few litres come out. Most of the tranny fluid is held in the torque converter. One last thing ; It may be worth changing the filter and cleaning the magnets in the pan while you are at it.

You could be in luck, whilst doing a big end repair a few years ago I removed the engine and tranny and took a few photo's, as you can see the fixing bolts go straight through (well the ones along the side do) You should be able to drill through your stripped threaded hole and use a longer bolt with a nut on the other side. I don’t have any images of the ends of the oil pan, so please check the holes out before drilling.

I may try that, keeping an eye on the leak... it seems to have stoped

Already removed the pan cleaned it and put in a new filter

when i put everything back together and put new tranny fluid in i noticed the hole was bored out. also tried using a longer screw to no success

Thanks all for your support. drilled it out and used a bolt and nut to tighten it down


Seems that the hole already went straight through so i just had to drill out the remaining shreds of threads to get the bolt to slide thru, making puting the nut on easier didnt have much room to work with
