Mk3 Turbo Problems
I just bought a '87 mk3 turbo, and the car drives great, but the issue is that the previous owner swap the mass air-flow from a ls400 in to the car, so now when i start it up it wants to cut off at idle, He claims because that engine has been rebuilt and upgraded that the timing is off on the car, I think in need a upgraded fuel system to compensate for the extra air into the engine, has anyone has this issue or any solution issue number 2 is the 1st owner of this car i guess wanted white trim gauges and got a custom 1 off another mk3 but this retarted got it of the N.A mk3 now my gauge read top speed 140mph, i wanted to know if there was a place i can get the OEM factory gauges.

The Lexus AFM *housing* is a popular swap for the stock KVAFM's housing. It'll let 25% more air in, but requires you to upgrade your injectors as well, 550cc injectors are what you'll need.
Might as well check the timing since the previous owner mentioned it as well. Don't forget to set the TCCS to the diagnostic mode before setting the timing... and check for error codes while you're in there. As for the gauge, some MKIII's came with 150MPH gauges and others with 160MPH gauges. You need to swap the whole gauge, not just the face... and the gauge includes the odometer, I hope you didn't buy the car based on the low miles. ;) |
thanks!!!! actually i bought the car for 1800 it actually a pretty good deal, it runs real good on the highway and i got a tuning shop to help me out, it needs body work nothing major i thinking about going 1jz but it up for debatehttp://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif :)

So did you manage to find the source of the problem? Please share for the benefit of future readers. Good luck with the car.

Question how do i check the engine codes??????????????????????
|
|
because right now the car isn't starting, i start it up yesterday day it started fine then later that day it didn't want to start. the start sounds fine but it doesn't want to fire up. The codes its 43-starter signal and 52-knock sensor signal. How should i fix theres issues????????????????
|
52's common enough. The wires running from the knock sensors to the ECU degrade and cause too much signal loss... that's the most common reason for that code anyway. One or both of the knock sensors could be bad. Do a search here or over at SupraMania for "knock sensor rewire"... there are a couple walk throughs posted. This code may be solely responsible for your idle issues... and once corrected the car should run better in all cases. This code causes the ECU to add a lot more fuel and pull a significant amount of timing as it operates in a "safe mode".
The code 43 is another thing. having any trouble with your starter? If your starter functions fine and you're not push starting the car this code is, again, most likely due to faulty wiring. I'll post more info for you later, but basically you need STA at the ECU should be at 12v when the engine is cranking... if it's not the ECU can act odd in a number of ways. |
i was looking around and it might be the alarm that disable the engine, cause when i lock the car, and then open it back up the alarm goes off until i put the key in the ignition, i don't have the factory key so i am guessing that might be and issue to

Good news my car is running again, i was the battery it was dead well i went completely dead this morning, but the steering it extremely hard to turn the power steering fluid its there but if feels like its locked in stone, any ideas what it can be?

what is the best blow off valve to run on my car i have a stock turbo
|
Please take a little more time in the composition of your posts. It makes it a lot easier for us to accurately help and makes it less of a chore for us as well.
As for the battery, are you saying that it keeps ending up drained? If so, even if the original problem wasn't simply a bad battery, the battery is probably shot now. Check for parasitic losses when you've got a fully charged battery connected. Shouldn't be more than a few hundred milliamps of draw. The most common replacement for the stock blow off valve for a car that's stock is a certain model Bosch bypass valve (aka blow off valve). I don't know the model myself, but you should be able to locate the specifics easily enough by searching "Bosch BOV" on most of the Supra sites. With the power steering the problem could be any number of things. A bad power steering rack, and clogged line, a shot power steering pump, emulsified power steering fluid, or even a bad belt. For more info on trouble shooting the power steering system look here: MK3 TSRM On-Line |
ok up it turn out the alternator fine, my and my brother was tinker around with th afm and next thing you know the car fired up, i took to a speed shop today he said he found oil,on the spark plugs and it was missing the gasket to prevent that, the guy said he was gonna due a complete tune up and let me know any other issues that come up
|
Ok here's the update, i took my car to a speed shop to get my car checked out and fixed and he found a couple of problems, one the spark plugs had oil on them due to a lack of a valve cover gasket so he had to clean it up and reseal my valve cover, and the the timing was WAY! off cause the car probably ran so bad because of the half ass build up he the former owner had to set the time off just to run the car so he set the timing back, the wiring harness is screwed up he patched it up but he suggest i get a new one. Now i need to know where can I find a place to buy a wiring harness???? beside a junk yard
|
Other than Toyota, I'm not sure... But that'll be a pricey purchase there. You could look on eBay, they surface on there from time to time, but they typically will be missing a few connectors so you'd probably end up donating pieces from your current one to the "new" one you get from eBay. Other than that check the Parts Wanted/Parts for Sale part of the forum. If you have no luck anywhere, than I think you'd have to hit up the junkyard. But I'm sure someone else will chime in here that has another great place to pick one up...

I have an often asked about problem....
My waste gate is stuck open...anyone know where the heck i can get one???!!!

The wastegate or the actuator? The difference is very important.
I see you're local, I may be able to offer you a hand and I *might* have a wastegate around here somewhere. Oh, I'm in Denver, BTW. |
Ok since the speed shop i am dealing with is jerking around i need, a new mechanic i live in Queens NYC and i need a shop or a person the now how to build supra's properly i was dealing with a race shop but all he seems to be interested in me paying top dollar for parts i don't need like i am a dummy that has no idea about cars so if anyone knows anybody let me know
