Unhappy 88 N/A Manual, No Spark!

I have an 88 N/A manual. It started running rough, then died on the road and will only turn over, not getting any spark from the coil, but the coil is new. Is there something common I should know about? Isn't the coil supposed to get spark before the distributor? STUMPED!

The coil is triggered by the igniter which is controlled by the ECU. The ECU knows when to fire based on signals from the distributor's cam position sensor.

Check the wiring to those three components and test them per the TSRM. It's possible it's the igniter.

Also check to make sure the block is well grounded. From the factory the small ground line on the exhaust side may have been sufficient, but as the wire ages it goes bad fast.

I remember the first time that happened to me.. lol. It was a Dodge Aries K-car. Stopped dead for no reason.. and after testing the electronics throughout for 3 days, pulled the front of the motor off and saw that the timing belt has spun out the teeth right at the crank. The other teeth were all there.. it just popped them off at the bottom end..

not sure why.. but it confused me for quite a while.. lol.

Default No Spark

That very same thing happened to mine but I did have spark. Mine was still turning the cams but it had jumped out of time. I take it yours was not spinning the top end?

My Kcar wasnt turning at the top end. Dont know about the OPS. : )

If the belt breaks, its far easier to identify. Mind.. you I check the belt now before looking at the ECUs
