Is the a way to advance timing on the distributer on a non turbo model, or is it set by the computer?

Yes you can adjust the dist cap up and down to lower and or raise it.

To fill out Supramacist's answer:

The ignition timing is controlled by the TCCS (that's the computer ;) ). You however can set the base timing by adjusting the rotation of the distributor. A 5? advance over the stock advance of 10? will equate to a 5? increase across the board.

Don't forget the jumper wire in the diagnostic box like I do at times and freak out because your shites way off.
