Default What is the Plate Below the Oil Filter?

Hi all, What is the purpose of the plate below the oil filter, it resembles the oil return feed for a turbo but is not in the right spot. Thanks.

Either side of the oil filter on a turbo block there is the oil feed and oil return pipes, on a N/A block I would assume they blank these off.

The only other parts below the oil filter are the oil return pie from the cooler that goes into the side of the sump and the engine mount. Unless it’s part of that metal plate Toyota loosely fit to the side of the engine, to make you think you have a big end knocking.

Yea, the feed and return spots on a NA block are not open, but the casting spots are there. I took a pic of what I'm talking about:



And this is the casting spot for the turbo oil return feed:

Looks like an egr block off plate of somekind like it may have been a cressida block.

It is a JDM engine, so it is a Cressida block, it does resemble a EGR block off plate.

I really just need to know if oil goes in or out of it, because if it goes in then I can use it for a oil return for the turbo I have for it, but if it goes out, then I'm back to square one for oil return. Thanks.

There you go all sorted, the blanking plate behind the filter is the same on both N/A & Turbo. Not sure why is there, but I think I remember the oil pump internal connections run down the inside of the block about there.

Not sure it the blanking plate behind the filter is under oil pressure, but the Turbo block looks like this; where its marked inlet that’s the feed to the turbo, where is marked outlet that’s the retuning oil.
