second gear grind

could some one tell me what would cause my transmission to grind when it goes into second? It is the only gear that grinds, and it some times doesnt grind if i give it a long to click in.

Sounds like it is the sync-roes, it could probably go for a re-build. I plan to rebuild my tranny when I do a clutch, I have had my 2nd gear grind once or twice during shifting.

Let me guess, you have a W58? (not the R154 that came in turbo mkIII)

2nd gear is always the 1st to go in W58s *shrug*

Yep, good thing Toyota has those nifty upgraded 2nd gear components available, I just don't want to see the bill for the upgrades, lol.

Ohh, well I would still bet its the syncros.

Edit: Somehow it shows this post above tak2099's last post???? lol

Ah, R154 2nd gear grind. Don't know much about those ones :(

Checked the fluid lately?

supramacist 05-10-2008 10:29 PM

Ya....., a fluid change will often aid someting like that chambers:squint:.

You know I like ya boy.

bleed your clutch. It could be that your second gear synchro doesn't work as well as the others, therefore it is the only one grinding, but your clutch may still be grabbing slightly when disengage it because of air in the line.
