I have an 89 with a cracked block, it's a 7mge not gte.

this might take me all summer to save for but is it worth it?

It depends on what you want from the car.

Regardless. No. The lot of us that build ge's have never been down so far as to 'have' to buy a new engine.

I would do it differently if I knew then what I know now.

So say if i re-built the 7mge and put a turbo on it could i expect the same power as a gte turbo? Sorry im not very mechanically inclined, luckly i have a mechanic father.

No. Not even kinda.

And you slapped a turbo onto a less dependable engine than the gte itself.

Thats pricey and doesn't include the harness, (its probably cut on that one where it would have gone through the firewall) or the ECU which you will need since your swapping to a different motor, and you will need the ignition system and modify the tach on your NA dash etc etc.
