All you did was head gasket ?

Pull plugs pour some transmission fluid in each cly... crank motor over let it coat the cly walls... You might have dry cly...

also a hose with a small cut will sound like a bird chirping... acts like a musical instrument reed

also pull all the belts off... and run...

Pin point the noise...

p/s: also a transmission funnle... them long ones.. stick the small end in ear :} makes good listning device

yes all i did was the head gasket. i am positive i put everything back in the right spot. i only have one small bolt that is left and i dont know where it goes. i also dont think that bolt that is missing is making any difference. i am going to try a copper pipe to listen to the engine. my car also doesnt idle. at all. it just dies whenever i take my foot off the gas. so maybe the whistle and the no idle have something in common? im stumped. i wanna get it running by thursday.

not idling sounds like a vacuum issue. (when combined with your whistle) Therefore, you have to look at what lines go into the intake system. (that would be my first guess).

Here is where it starts:
MK3 TSRM On-Line

Naturally.. again.. your down to hunting hose by hose...

Well.. dont lose hope. The beauty of the car is that its mechanical (for the most part.. lol). So, therefore... a leads to b which in turn leads to c etc...

When you get stumped, you got 2 choices... (imo), ask a professional/expert or... start at a... then go to b... etc...

In the end, its usually forehead smacking time in most cases as it turns out to be that "obvious" thing that just slipped by. Me? Im old... I do the professional/expert route. My time is just to valuable. or.. worse case scenario... just remove everything you just put back on.. and do it very carefully, checking each part and step. Lots of work perhaps.. but if you cant find it any other way, it may be your only choice.
(again.. Im not a mechanic.. I just work on my car)

Im lucky, I have owned this 1988 Cresseda for about 9 years now and let it sit for 3 years (resulting in extensive rust). Its a true Toyota though... runs always. Thats my winter car and driver when I take apart the Supra. (about same fuel mileage as the supra... should probably by a Corolla as a winter beater )

so hot import nights was the SHIT. (sorry) i can not find any other words to describe it. moderators please dont clean it up. but anyways, it was awesome. i havent ever been to an import car show that large and with that many cute almost naked Asian girls. haha. the 240 was quick but i hopped in a STI (that was also very heavily modded and very fast) in minneapolis. in the parking ramps we made 12 car alarms go off cuz both had really loud exhaust systems. it was really funny...

on a supra note... i started it up tonight with pretty much no problems except the dang tensioner squeeling like a pig. no little tea pot whistle or anything. idled for a bit and i reved it up to about 3000 and it sounded nice. no missing or backfires... so im pretty happy about that. i think i found the spot where the cam sensor should be placed so its tightened down now. i will report back if i can test drive it withing the next day.

till then, ill be on after school tomorrow! ha

So... any idea what the sound was coming from? It sounds like you got everything running finally, but haven't heard what the whistle issue was or if you fixed that.
