Buttons
Just a quick question that is probably really obvious but, if you don't ask, you'll never find out.
I have an 89, 7MGE Auto. On the gear stick is a button marked OverDrive. Now, as far as I can work out this changes the gear ratio but what is it actually for and when would I ever use it. Also, what is the power button for? Is this traction control? Thanks in advance and sorry for being stupid :eek3: |
Overdrive is basically your last gear, so you will want to have overdrive on during normal driving for gas mileage. If you have overdrive off, it will just use the other 3 reduction/direct drive gears. What power button are you talking about?

If you have a "power" button, this changes the shift points in the transmission.

You can also use the over drive for engine braking, just like a manual box when you would drop down a gear to approach a tight bend, what ever you do don’t switch the over drive off on a bend though, you will probably find the back kicking out if the road is wet. The ECT or PWR button is used for fast acceleration, switch it on and hold your foot down to the floor and you'll find the gear box won’t change up until about 5k revs. Bloody amazing these supras when you think about the technology is over 20 years old, some cars don’t even have heated wing mirrors let alone sports mode. All the above functions as well as cruise control etc will be displayed at the bottom of the rev (tachometer) counter dial. Sounds like you may need the handbook, you can download one from HERE. Just put the botton in 'sport' and never touch it again........trust me.
