Increasing the Redline

Sup! i was just wondering if anyone knew how to increase the engine's redline. i know someone told me something about tuning the ECU and wanted to know if that was it.

New valvetrain is needed i believe. not sure on the stock rpm limits for the block components though.

afaik, the rev limiter is only imposed because there is no mapping for the injectors to fire any faster. map the injectors up to a certain speed and theyll fire up to that certain speed. how to do that, i cant help ya :sadwavey:

i was told a few months ago that you needed to upgrade the pistons as well. not sure if that's the case or not but it does raise a question about the rpm limits / tolerances of stock components

I would say you need all new connecting rods and pistons for the bottom end, the stock connecting rods may give out at higher rpms.

As for the valvetrain, you would need stronger valvesprings so they will adquetly close so they do not hit the pistons, then you would problably need to replace all the other valvetrain componetns as well.

I did read somewhere, that there was someone who would take Toyota ECUs and "tune" them for a higher rev limit and fuel maps, but you can do that with a piggback ECU as well.

You would have to lay down some serious cash to do this, but in the end you would have one reving mo-fo.

in the long run....what i want :x:

they put redline on cars cause thats the farthest they can rev safely on stock components without putting to much strain on other parts id leave it til some serious building is done and your sure everything can handle it
