Sawblade wheels
I'd like to refurbish the sawblade wheels on my 90 Turbo. Any tips? What paint to use? Should I strip the wheels of the existing paint or just sand?
Thanks in advance. |
The best coarse of action would be to remove the tires, and have them sandblasted and finally powercoated.
But if you don't feel like doing all that, I would just sand it and strip the existing paint off. Primer, paint, then clear coat. As for paint, I would look into high temp primer, high temp paint, and high temp clear coat. Hope this helps, good luck. |
There is a very tough laquer type clear coat on them. I tried paint stripper on a wheel. LOTS & LOTS of work.
You could of had mine (the really nice set) for free........a month ago. The metal man hauled them away, as I was moving, and had no place to continue to store them. I recommend leaving them alone until you can afford a nice set of wheels, even at $160 ea. (what I paid for mine), its worth NOT sittng for hours working on a set of wheels that I could not even give away. |
Those wheels aren't really worth doing much to. What I did was buy several cans of gunmetal Duplicolor, made a circular shroud out of newspaper and masking tape for the tires, sanded and scuffed them and put 3 coats on each wheel. It looked perfectly fine and with the stock bumper it looked just like a Turbo-A.
