Did the guy who designed the starter location also do this?
I got home yesterday from work, and before I went in the house, my son runs out looking for a toy of his. I go to get it out of the trunk, and WTF? My brake lights are blaring. I get my son his toy, then grab my screwdriver (also in the trunk), and drop the lower dash board panel, suspecting the brake switch. I find a rubber disk hanging on the isulation, and see the plunger of the brake light switch fitting nicely through the hole in the plate off the brake pedal. Apparently the hole was used for the clip holding the rubber disk to the plate. The hole is the SAME SIZE as the plunger on the brake switch! Who thought this was a good idea? This fix was easy, a dab of JB Qwik and a penny, but if my son had not come out looking for his toy, I would have been wondering why my battery was dead, and the rear bulb holders melted.
