Hello everybody, this is my first post here, but Ive been trolling around for a while doing research
ive been looking for a clean 5sp turbo for a while and havent come up with any that are reasonably close and are in decent enough shape. The ones that are in decent shape seem to want about 2 grand more than the car is worth. But recently a solutiong kind of fell into my lap, a buddy of mine has an 88 NA 5spd red/gray in need of a clutch that he is willing to sell me for a $1000 and its in great condition inside and out. It only has 130,000 miles and it starts but sounds very rough, but im guessing that it is due to the car sitting in his garage for the past year and a half. Im assuming that the gas in the tank has gone bad since he didnt put a stabilizer in it and I was wondering if you guys had any ideas on how to fix this problem. would syphoning out the gas and putting in some injector cleaner and fresh gas fix this or am I looking at some expensive repairs. My thinking is I could get the car replace the clutch and drive it for a while and scoop up a 7mgte and swap it over in the coming months, the car is in unbelievable shape cosmetically though and even with the cost of a swap I would have a nice turbo car for way cheaper than I would found otherwise. So do you guys have any advice for me? TIA |

could be a whole list of things, and ya if that gas has been sitting there for over a year its probly bad you can buy stabilizer so you dont have to drain it

pending on how long the gas has been in there and how much gas there sometimes additives wont work at all, i bought a crx once that was sitting with a little under 1/2 a tank of gas in it, we had put like a can of seafoam into it to clear it up but it didnt work there was so much rust in the tank it wouldnt cure it, and it ended up destroying the head from all the rust, your best bet is to play it safe and pull the tank and look inside if its full of rust replace the tank with either a new on or one from a yard or look on ebay, and youll need to put in a diffrent pump also all that rust has destroyed the pump also and changed the filter to, trust me play it safe i went threw 2 heads on the crx and couldnt firure out why until i took of the fuel filter and the gas looked like tea. this is probley why the car runs like crap, almost garentty it, so quit starting it and letting it run trying to figure it out, pull the tank.
