newbie... any advice for beefing my car up

i'm getting my first supra tonight. have never had one of these cars. allways been into the old muscle cars. so i'm hoping i can get some good tips on what i can do to modify this car. it's a 86 5speed. the guy i'm getting it from says it's at 8 lbs of boost right now. any thoughts on upgrades. i can sink a couple thousand for the motor. i'm not worried about 600hp but if i can get 350hp to 400hp i'd be a happy camper. the guy i'm getting this from tell me i can go 450hp on stock internals... is that true? any advice is greatly appreciated. thank you

anybody know of a good shop that works with these engines in the michigan area? i should have it all painted and customized the way i want it by winter and then i'm thinking i might just drop it off at a good tuner shop and let them have fun with it. any info would be great, thanks.

MK3PIMP 07-31-2008 11:31 AM

U Should Beable To Do All The Work Yourself Besides The Headgasket And Getting It Tuned But All The Other Stuff U Should Do Your Self Than Take It To A Good Shop To Get The Block And Head Redone For The Mhg

86newbie 07-31-2008 11:48 AM

ya i would just hate to buy a bunch of things/spend the money and then realize i should have done all different. it would be nice to be able to take it to someone who has worked with these engines before. i'v never done anything with a turbo motor. i dont want to do damage, i bought a boost controller and i dont even understand what it really does lol lol give me a carburator and a big cam and i do ok ;) lol lol

MK3PIMP 07-31-2008 12:32 PM

i got the car all painted (omoha orange) and it looks pretty good. also i want to redo the head and use the chromatic head gasket so i can run a little more boost. is there any threads on here that would go into detail on how to do this. or website or something someone can direct me to. thanks a ton.

That's looking very sharp Newbie, just picked up a 1989 myself. I had an 87 turbo years ago and now getting back into these cars and it reminds me how I fell in love with them years ago. How many hours did you put into that paint job it looks very professional but of course i'm looking at a very small image.

86newbie 10-22-2008 11:46 AM

it took me about a month. i'v painted a few cars so i have a little experience with paint. up close there was a some small mistaked but for the most part i think it looks pretty good. now that i'v looked into building this motor i'm a little discouraged on how much it cost for parts on this motor. anyway, right now i'm painting a 93 lt1 camaro i just picked up :) i'm going black with it. i love working with cars lol:dance:
