BVSV interchangability?/ Smog
1988 na 7mge automatic california supra
will a BVSV from a 5mge supra or cressida work in a 7mge? there are two 80 something 5m cressidas at pick n pull and no 7m supras and i need to replace my bvsv valve just wondering if they are interchangable? Also i failed smog twice now, first time i thought it was because i had degreased my motor and water had gotten in the spark plug valley and i didnt know and tried for about 25 min to get it to turn over causing unburnt fuel to flow through the exhaust, i sucked out the water and got it running again then the next day it failed smog. the guy said that the cat is bad, but the cat is less than a year old, and the car had passed last year after the install of the new cat. secont time was about a week later and i had run about a 1/2 tank of 91 octaine and drove it about an hour before the next test, still failed. so im thinking a bad o2 sensor? also tonight i got a fault code 71 which says is high EGR temp. could this also have to do with a bad o2 sensor? I need to pass smog! any help would be awsome! thanks Josh |
Is anyone there?
Really? No one?

i got a stock cat i'll make a deal on for you .
i passed emissions with it this year i have no Pre cat in the down pipe so it passed with just this cat. lemme know @ ddmcse @ gmail.com i keep a full stock exhaust in the garage just for passing emissions oh you have an N/A , i dunno if you've got an egr vsv but i'd check that asap |
well the cat is new.
just windering if i need a new o2 sensor? what am i looking for in the egr vsv? my current bvsv has a busted top "nipple" so i put some tape around it to hold it on and then taped the two hoses together so it wouldnt slip off, but im wondering too if this is causeing a vacuum leak and makes it something to do with not passing smog. ive never owned a vehicle that ive had to smog before and never owned a vehicle that has EFI wither, so im not sure with what needs to be done to pass smog. Im not a certified mechanic, but i do know how to work on cars, and dont trust any mechanic shops...esp ones that can make a proffit on smog related problems |
