i am doing a conversion and i think i ran into a problem... i have the manual tranny and nothings in it the clutch and presure plate and all is out of it... theres no fluid in it... but the gears wont shift... the shifter moves left and right but not up and down... i was told it may be that the transmission sat for to long and i have to beat the hell out of it so it will start moving right again? should i just put the clutch and everything in it fill it with fluid and slap it in my car? and hope for the best? or should i have some serious questions about it? ... also... i went to my local canadian tire and i asked them what type of fluids i needed for it and they told me 80W90 gear oil... if thats wrong can someone please let me know i just spent alot of money on all this and i dont want anything to happen to it.... ( conversion + HKS metal head gasket and APR head studs almost completed )

Ok, first don't beat the crap out of the thing, that might mess something up
![]() As for gear oil, yes, 80W90 gear oil will be the weight and oil of choice. I prefer Lucas full synthetics for all my gear oil apps. Good to hear you are using HKS MHG and ARP hardware!! Good luck. |

you say you can move it side to side, im assuming that means youre in nuetral. When you turn the input shaft, does the output shaft turn? Can you hold the output shaft to keep if from turning?

i really dont know man... i do know that i can turn everything inside and it glides like butter though... its so clean inside and out no stress cracks... and the clutch was still mint the presure plate and all was just amazing shape... i dont understand why there would be anything wrong with this transmission.

well, im not sure what else i can tell you. Its not normal for a transmission to not shift, so its not like i can say it sounds like its fine, cause i would be misleading you, but without any other information there's really nothing anyone here can say.
