ARP Head Studs
 

hey ok so.... i got my tranny fully bolted in and was working on the head when i came across the torque specs in the repair manual and it said torque the head studs down to 55-61 psi... now that threw me for a loop because i always thought there was suppost to be a way higher psi mark... but i torqued them to 61 as the manual requested, now i was going to put the cams back in and set up the camshaft angle sensor but im afraid that my ARP's arnt torqued enough? is that the right specs? ... also i was wondering if i can use synthetic oil in my 89 supra turbo... i was told that the synthetic ate away at my lines... not to sure if this is true or not so figured id find out first... and what type of oil should i be using? 10W30? 5W30? confused supra owner in need :( thanks guys

First, there are alot of threads on here talking about the torque specs for the head... Just go with what the ARP studs say to torque them to. I believe that's around 80 ft/lbs.

As for the oils, I don't know for sure on that so I'll let someone else answer rather than guess for you

You can certainly run full synthetic in your Supra, the only problem is that synthetic will eat away any grit and grime that lines your gaskets and could cause a leak. How many miles are on your engine?

I use full synthetic AMSOIL in my car, I run 10W40 in the winter and 20W50 in the hotter summers.
