Newbie
Not real sure where to put this. Their were no posts in the street/stip area and it also said stock. So this area covers my year of car.
I bought this car this way and was wondering how good the rear ends are in the factory turbo supra cars. I want to take it to the track to see what kind of 1/4 mile I can get out of it. The car will be in full trim( - a/c pcs.) will also have 17" street tires. I will mix the gas 50/50 Motor is a stock 400 I think it has a small cam sportsman heads iron, Dual plain alum intake and eld carb th350 trans, nos plate kit, witch i will not use at this time I am guessing at a 3.73 gear and posi from what I have read on other forums , I know it shifts fast. the car seams to hook fairly well on the street. I would hope for some low 14s to high 13s on motor. ALso I gather the bolt pattern for the wheels is 5x100 |

no idea what year/engine you are talking about.. but from everything I have read/heard/experienced... the Supra rear ends are very strong from factory.

you have a supra with a 400 cu.in. engine? The car is strong.. but thats a big motor : ) odd someone would dump that in a Supra... you can get into the 11's with modifications.. (I believe it costs about 7-10k to get it done.. less if you do it yourself) Having said that.. no idea what whp your putting out... The supra rear ends are quite strong, but have never heard of it being pushed by that kind of an engine. I wouldnt think you would have any trouble.. but thats just going from what I have read.

I would agree with Ethan except for 2 things... 1. You bought the car with the engine... 2. Thats friggin awesome.. lol.
I was going to try a small block in a 73 Celica once, but after mapping it out, figured that the first time I stepped on it, the windshield would pop out from body twist. Thats a very interesting engine swap and cool to see (ty for the pics). But it seems to be quite a rare event as the car can be modded to very high hp ratings with the stock engine (probably outperform the v8). The only guy I know who would be able to answer your questions (and probably would do it) as he races Supras is at this web page: Riemer Consulting Technical Services Hit the contact button and fire him off an email... if anyone knows, I think he would. Have you ever had the car dyno'd to find out what kind of performance it gives on paper? |

I have built and done several cars over the years. I have done a mgb gt2 with a gm 350 crate 250hp motor ran 14.22 1/4 mile on 5" tires. 4 chevy luv trucks with 327, 350, 355 and a 431. tube chassie car ect. I got this car at a really good price, it seems to handle very well, and the motor is fresh. I don't think it will make a ton of power, prob in the 250 -300 range without the plate system. I was worried about putting some slicks on it. and launching out of the hole. I know you can mod the crap out of any motor, the factory motor modded would also get better mpg. I'm really stuck on the v8 sound of a nice camshaft or good mufflers. My buddie has a dodge spirt r/t in full street trim running low 10s and getting 33mpg on the highway, with the a/c.
Trying to fig out if I want to go to the dragstip on the 27th witch is 98 miles away or do a solo race for my first time here in town. Either way I will post the results. |

I think that would be an awesome thing though... to pull up beside a supra with a v8 rumble...
Be interesting to see how it performs for you : ) Still.. everything I have read points towards how a failed rearend on a Supra is a very very rare event. But to put slicks on it? Thought you would have to shorten the diff and tub the body for that. The picture in my head doesnt work with a stock supra. Do you have a pulled back picture of the motor in the body? Wondering how they worked the front suspension. Not that they would have to beef it up much, Im suspecting that a Supra engine/tranny weighs about the same as that setup.
