cat converter?

iw as wondering how much a cat converter for an 87 supra turbo would cost. cuzz as of right now my car is getting like 1 mile to the gallon. i test drove it around the block and it died down my street and i had to push it all the way back. it was sad. but how much would the cat cost?

What makes you think it’s the cat, not sure about the US models, but the UK Turbo has two cats; one in the down pipe and one just after the gearbox.

It's not your cat that's killing your mileage, I would guess at something in your fuel delivery system. Or it could be something with your ECU. If your turbo is stock/cali model it'll have 2 cats, one in the DP, one between the DP and the cat back. If it's standard US it'll just have the one between the DP and cat back. If you plan on replacing the cat, get a high-flow cat, it'll make the turbo spool faster and it'll still be street legal (and you should still be able to pass smog)

okay then. i will get an inspection on the car and see whats up with it. and if it is the cat then i will try to buy a new cat. but would getting one from the pick and pull be okay? dont relly have the money to get a new one since i am only in high school

Getting one from Pick a Pull won't work. They legally can't seel the Cats, and from what I've seen at all the ones I've been to they're ripped out before the car hits the yard. Besides, you don't really want to buy a used cat... It could be damaged or clogged and end up being a waste of money

This is true. I would not trust a used cat.

Another thing I didn't think of that could be causing the bad fuel economy is a failing or clogged MAF. If your MAF isn't working properly, your ECU might be running the car extra rich to prevent detonation. Just another idea.

But definitely take it to a (professional) mechanic and have him/her check it out.

oh thanks then. i will try to get a new cat. but maybe it isnt my cat. that was my first intention but now is might be my fuel system or somtin. so many problems with the car, i might as well get a new engine or somtin. maybe even part it out

haha I dunno if getting a new engine is the way to go, a stop at a mechanics will get it up and going again i'm pretty sure.. I do have a questions though about the MAF.. if it were that how would he be able to test if it is working correctly?

dannydavi 10-21-2008 11:24 PM

actually it says here how to test it, but what I want to know is where is that item is in diagram F12432? Thanks for a response guyshttp://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Librar.../FI/FI_094.gif

I pretty sure that's where the wiring hooks into the MAF on the top of the housing.
