My supra seems sluggish..
Hi all. For the past week my supra has been SLOW. Its an N/A automatic and whenever i put it in drive, i can put the pedal to the floor then it sloooowly accelerates. Once it gets rolling she seems to be fine, but whenever i stop it picks up real slow. Any help you guys have would be appreciated.

Do you hear any sounds to go along with it? like putting/puttering? does it stall during pick up?

No, i have been listening to it and it makes no sounds. I put the pedal on the floor and it goes to 2000/2500 RPMS max. Its killing me. I mean once it gets going and im on the open road its fine, but when i have to stop then continue going it WONT get up and go.

Does it seem like it's slipping when it does this? If you put the Transmission in "L", do you get a clean start?

That's what i was afraid of..
If i put it in "L" and step on it, it goes quicker than in drive. If my transmission is slipping thats not a cheap fix is it?

Typically, no... More than likely you'll probably need a rebuild. When I took my tranny in to get rebuilt, I dumped a little over a grand on it. It would have been an extra 500ish bucks if I left it on the car, but I pulled it myself.
You could try getting a used one (via eBay, this forum, Pick a Part junkyards), but if it works it'll only be a temporary thing because these transmissions are old, and it is inevitable that they will have to be rebuilt at some time

You know, I was thinking today and completely overlooked one possible cause: How's the tranny fluid level? Low fluid would cause slipping...
Also, in the TSRM is a step-by-step diagnostic procedure on the A/T you should check out... It helped me isolate my problem to a faulty solenoid, saving me from having to pay for a rebuild (again)
