oil pan gasket
 

has any one change their oil pan while the engine is still in side? can any one tell me if i need to left the engine to get the oil pan out from between the tranny and that bar across the engine under the oil pan?
is it better to use gasket i was thinking felpro's or RTV silicone ?

Currently I have my engine supported and braced so that I can remove the front cross-member to take my oil pan off. It was leaking real bad, as well as a few other spots. I chose that option because I can't fit an engine host in my garage and close the garage with it tipping the engine a bit backwards to get the pan off. But that could be an option for you if that works. Just take the tranny cross-member off, driveshaft, cat or testpipe and any lines that can't be stretched.

Hope this helps you. Question though are you going to be throwing in an aftermarket oil pan? Or just OEM?

There might be another way that it can be done. I don't know if you have opened up the bottom end of a 7mgte before. What I am thinking is that you could probably get your hands in between the cross-member and the oil pan to get a couple of the bolts out and then slide the oil pan out from under the engine, but depending on how low the crankshaft sits in the pan I dont know if it is possible. Haven't got to that stage yet. Cheers.
