Default codes - no light on dash ??

hi, i have an intermittent starting problem and i am wanting to check the code but the doesn't appear to be a ght on my dash that will flash. can anyone tell me where it should be and what it looks like ? my mate told me to bridge te1 and e1. its a 1990 g reg supra. thanks, eggybread !
