suggestions for new intercooler.
Hey! im new to this forum as i have only just bought my supra. its a 7mgte, mk3, manual. the engine is completely stock (i just replaced it with a refurbished one) and i was thinkin about replacing my intercooler as a precurser to replacing my turbo. the only other after market parts that i have are a stage 3 the clutch and fly wheel kit. any suggestions would be welcome! any tips on posting pictures of my ride would be apperciated. also i was thinkin about gettin a cold air intake... i dont know what to do first?!

Hi there, welcome. Sounds like you got yourself a very good platform to start from. I would suggest checking out driftmotion.com for a spearco replica intercooler, and intercooler piping kit. Your spool time will be much quicker, and if you want to upgrade the turbo, I would sugest you go with a upgraded stock one, driftmotion carries them as well.
If I had a stock turbo car, I would look into intercooler, intake, and exhaust. Doing a turbo back exhaust inconjunction with the intercooler and intake will make your turbo spool way quicker than stock. You can also shim the wastegate to allow the turbo to build a few more pounds of boost, but if it is shimed to much without the aide of a fuel computer then you will hit fuel cut and run the risk of hurting your engine. As for brand name of the three mods, I can't give you any hints there. I have a old school HKS exhaust, and I can't see buying anything else. To post pictures you need to find your self a picture hosting web site, I use imageshack.us. After you upload the pic, you need to copy the html code and put it in the post, then it will show up. BillUK, a user here, has a good tutorial around somewhere. Hope this helps, good luck. |

First off, join Supramania as well, I recommend everyone do this because (IMO) they respond faster over there and offer better information (not trying to flame anyone over here).
You say the engine is completely stock. Before you start modifying the engine, make sure you have a metal head gasket and ARP studs torqued to spec. Driftmotion and 935 Motorsports carry Spearco replica intercoolers, those would be suitable for what you're looking for. Intercooler hardpipes would be a good idea as well. First mods to do would be get a BIC (becauseican) divorced down pipe, test pipe or high-flow 3" cat, and 3" catback exhaust. Cheapest I've found (and one of the best sounding -to me at least-) is the RS*R Ex-Mag GT2. It can be had for around 500. A lot of people say use a K&N cone filter, but that requires oil to work and can mess up your MAF; I personally recommend the AEM dry-flow. Aftermarket BOV (recirculated) would be another good upgrade. For turbo upgrades, Driftmotion offers different trims of the CT26. They recommend not to go 60 or 60-1 as it reduced the life of the turbo. Some members over on SM claim around 400ish wheel hp with a 57 Trim CT26. Hope some of this helps, and I wish you the best of luck with you're new Supra |
