smoke after rebuild of top end

ok new to the world of supra (more experienced in chevy n triumph ) so usual suspects of bhg:(. she is a 87 7m-ge 5-speed - well tear down n rebuild of top end in three days. ( when i get on a project i keep on it , sometimes bad ) just hopeing this is not one of the times it's bad. anywho cleaned everything really really really good (parts washer hehehe ) replaced all gaskets except cam seals n egr box ( cover with 8 bolts ) stock gasket kit was used ... but after start up all was well ... on test drive the familar smoke was back :frown: but not as bad ... is this a possibality of a warpped head ? ( no it was not sent to a shop to be re-worked ) is their anything else that would cause smoke in the exhaust like that ?
sorry for odd n maybe simple questions ... just n unknown territory

thanks

Smoke

i would have t osay you probablly should have taken the head to a shop to get lapped and atleast taken a hone stone to the block if it isnt able to go to a shop. it could be warped head possiblly the block, but it kinda sounds like the rings are a litl worn out. a little more info on the motor would be nice. Like miles on it before the rebuild would help. just my piece of mind. good luck.

Does it puff a big cloud on startup? Trailing throttle? If so, old, hard valve stem seals and worn rings are most likely culprits. Mine was mainly valve stem seals. I had over 200k miles, and cylinders looked like new, rings were worn but not past spec, still had over 160psi compression. But it would paint a nice film of oil on the rear bumper after a few hundred miles. Yuk. I had my head surfaced and new stem seals installed for $200, including reassembly. I didn't let them touch the valves or seats, as they were sealing just fine. They just removed them , then cleaned and replaced them. Then I installed a MHG w/ ARP studs and turned up the boost. Smoke has been gone ever since and no more oily bumper.

all is good

well after using mass amounts of solvent. in the intake too i might add. i drove the car for about 15 minutes n then wow all was gone except a light blue (probablly the valve stem seals) puff on hard excel. runs smooth n no other signs of other issues (yet). will probablly do a mhg after i save n have some other small projects tackled on her. hopefully i can get some advice on the rebuild with mhg from everyone if possible. also if still waiting on the photos ... just a little longer ... i can't find my memory card. lol thanks again!

oh any good places to get parts or web sites? just curious
