Default New Timing Belt Direction

Finally putting things back together.

I've read the timing belt is directional, and facing the engine turns clockwise from left to right, but my new (from Toyota) belt doesn't have any arrows on it.

Looking at the belt there's Totota labelling, then to the right of that there's the part number, and then to the right of that there's 5 vertical lines. Should the words be readable as you face the engine from the front? If so, then the 5 vertical lines would indicate the belt turns in a clockwise direction.

Anyone put a belt on recently? Would appreciate you're checking me on this.

Thanks

The directional thing only applies if you are reusing your old belt. Before removing the old belt, mark it with an arrow so you can install back the same way it came off. A new belt can run either way no directional preference, providing the ribbed face is facing inwards of course.

Thanks Bill. I really wasn't sure if the belt direction made a difference or not. I appreciate you're clearing that up. The timing belt installation sequence on the UK Supra site for which you provided the link was excellent, and helped a lot. The new idler pulley and timing belt fit up fine. Next to breaking the crank pulley bolt free, I think the worst part of the job is going to be replacing all of the vacuum lines.
