My new supra's (1990 turbo) oil pressure idles somewhere around 80lbs. Is this right? Also, my car has a new boost gauge which has boost on the right and vaccum on the left, what is it supposed to read at idle? When I rev the engine it doesn't mark on the boost side. I'm completely new to supras and turbos, any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks

80lbs as in 80psi @ idle i think that's way too high

what grade of oil are you using
what are the oil pressure readings at other times? acceleration/boost, cruising
when you get 80.. is this when you first start it for the morning?

no you won't reach boost just by revving it... that's quite normal

most supras will read anywhere between 18-20inhg vacuum
boost will usually be about 6psi stock

my is at 40lbs under full torque

80 is not normal .. check to see if the oil filter is the correct size . if you use the filter spec'd for the n/a the pressue will be too low , i am assuming a filter thats too small will increase pressure

heh... well it seems that my oil pressure gauge is broken. How can I fix it? The gauge is frozen at 80psi, even when the car is turned off. Should I just get an aftermarket gauge or is it an easy fix? Also, the car came with an a/f guage, but it doesn't seem to work. It always reads lean (which could be why I'm getting codes 25 & 26???) What can I do to fix the a/f gauge?

Thanks suprra_girl and ddmcse.

is 80psi the maximum on the gauge?
if so the sender wire may be earthing out... try wiggling the wire around and see what it does

try another 2nd hand sender unit (should be el cheapo for one)

if still no go... get an aftermarket one lol

those light show a/f gauges can lie...

try doing the vf check from your diagnostic box

plug a couple of wires into VF and E1 of the diag box
attach the VF wire to the red of the multimeter set to dc volts and E1 to the black prong of the multimeter

get someone to go with you so it's easier....

5 volts = adding lots of fuel from base maps
3.75 volts = adding little bit of fuel from base maps
2.5 volts = no change from base maps
1.75 volts = reducing some fuel from base maps
0 volts = reducing lots of fuel from base maps

The Vf will go to 0 volts when decelerating, and when accelerating and going into open loop (richer than 14.7 A/F). Ignore the Vf output at idle.

what voltages does yours put out when you go wot or just accelerating etc
