dose the oil pump knock?
i had knocking on my bottom end so i whent in to replace the rod berings and found that they wrnt in bad shape, so i checked my mains. They mains looked almost brand new. I read in a supra add that they guys engine was knocking due to a faulty oil pump and dam:rant2: it sucks if it is. How do i know if my oil pump is out and its knocking. Im gana try to check tomarrow if any tips it would help

Your oil pump won't knock. It might fail completely or it might work but not provide sufficient oil pressure, both of which could damage your engine and cause your engine to knock, but the pump itself won't knock. Worn wrist-pins can result in knocking too btw.
What's your oil pressure, at idle and at cruise? Read that you just put in new rod bearings. Did you use a plastiguage to verify that the bearings you installed were the proper size? |
the stock oilpresure gage reads a lil under the first line close to 0 so i know thats bad it use to read like at 40 as for the barings i used standerd size and im srry to ask but what are wrist pins and where are they located

Standard size rod and/or main bearings are almost certain to be undersized on a well-used engine. That's probably where your knock is coming from, but without a good inspection and check of the entire bottom of your engine it's impossible to know for sure. You needed a machinist at a reputable shop (if you don't have the experience to do it yourself) to mic everything out to see what size bearings are called for according to the amount of wear and tear on your crank, rods, etc. Putting incorrect sized bearings in just sets you up for rebuilding the bottom half again. Incorrectly sized bearings could well account for your oil pressure problem. The wrist-pins I mentioned are the pins which hold your pistons to the rods. A worn pin can cause all sorts of nasty sounds, and if it gives way entirely you can pretty much kiss the piston goodbye and more than likely the rod too. |
ya the oil was almost at 0 and theres no shops down here whith a good rep that knows about turbo supras i think im just gana buy a rebuild one from a comp. i saw on line then try to go al out on my old one.

Spend your money well. A truly well-built engine is going to cost you more, but you'll be better off in the long run for having spent the extra money on it. That'll give you plenty of time to rebuild your old one to whatever spec you want for it.

It was a car I rescued from going to a junkyard, been working on it about 1.5 years. Reman'd engine, cleaned and sealed gas tank, new fuel pump, new sending unit, lots of new parts in the engine compartment. It's a project. |
