n00b! Seeking Bay Area Supra info
Hi All,
I hope I'm posting this in the correct area, if not, please accept my apologies! Please be forewarned, this may end up being a bit long / wordy... I stumbled upon this forum while trying to find resources regarding 1987 Supra Mark III (non-turbo) upkeep. You see, I just bought a used one of these a couple of days ago. I've never owned a Supra, never thought about owning a Supra, nor am I anywhere near of a "car enthusiast" of any sort. After driving it for a couple of days, I now see why there is a lot of following with this car, it definitely is a fun drive. Here's my tale, please feel free to nod or wander off should the tale get boring. I ended up with a Supra MkIII for the simple expedience of price. I was in need of a used car, for a reasonable price, which I hope can give me at least a year (hopefully more) of faithful service. Through various turns and meanderings, I ended up finding a Supra MkIII that was being offered for sale by its original owner. It turns out that the owner in question had bought this car when he was already well into his 60s (yes, he's well into his 80s now). Being a "car guy," he has done any and all work needed on the car (most major item being an alternator replacement, otherwise your standard fluid and maintenance changes) and has kept the car in near-pristine condition. Over its 22 year stint of his ownership, he has only racked up 90,000 miles on the chassis, everything is still stock (except for the aforementioned alternator), and almost everything still works (seems the fog lights are now dead). Knowing that this forum represents an enthusiast (and enthusiastic) community of proud Supra owner, I'm hoping this community can keep me on the straight and narrow with regards to places I can comfortably - and with utter faith - take this well-cared for vehicle for any services or upgrades I might need (in the Bay Area, CA - preferably in San Francisco proper). As mentioned, the car is currently in near-pristine condition. I can keep it as is for now, but am interested in finding someone or some repair shop that can: A) Do a mechanical "once over" to confirm everything actually is kosher, good looks aside. B) Get the fog lights working again. C) "Center" the steering wheel (the wheels are in proper alignment, but the steering wheel spokes are off-axis when the tires are centered). D) Replace the climate control buttons (or at least re-face them). The buttons and lights work, but 22 years of use have rubbed out the icons on the buttons. I know that most of you would recommend that I do most (if not all) of these things myself. But to be quite honest, I was never into getting into the nuts and bolts of car ownership, and frankly would rather have a "professional" handle things. Also, I would be looking to have this recommended person/business do the continuing maintenance (fluid changes, tune ups, brake replacements, "pimping the ride," etc) on the car. Anyway, if any of you have thoughts / suggestions to meet my needs, please feel free to send me a PM or reply to this thread. I look forward to the community's input, and thanks in advance! |
