New Here- An Introduction, with Introductory Questions
Hi everybody.
I'm Neb, and I just bought my third Supra. When I was a teen I owned a MkII, and got my first MkIII when I was 20. The MkII siezed on a road trip across America (I wasn't too keen on maintenance as a kid), and I blew the HG on my MkIII only to have it stripped with a few other cars while sitting at the shop awaiting the rebuild. Disillusioned, I drove a truck for years after that. :frown: So, eight years later, I'm coming back to my favorite car. I picked up a silver 1986.5(N/A, no TEMS, 138K miles) from a kid down the street for $3K last weekend. It seems to run fine, and I intend to keep it that way. There are things I have in mind that I would like to do (brake & suspension upgrade for starters), but I want to make sure I have some of my bases covered before I start messing with it too much. I've been lurking here for about a week, and I like what I see. So here I go with the first round of what is sure to be an eventual many questions for you experts: -Where can I get a block test or compression test done? I don't think I have a BHG -no coolant/temp issues- but I want to be sure before I get on this thing. -Should I go ahead and check/adjust as necessary the torque of the head bolts to 75 lbs? Thanks! -Neb |
get a block test kit from ur local auto store. it tests ur coolant for exhaust.
I would advize that u change out ur hg if it hasnt. even if it's stock.. retorquing it may not help. since u have to have everything off to retorque... mightaswell change it out. with a good hg.. and some arp bolts/studs. better to do it now then to let it blow later and do some damage. |
