Tire Sizes?!
Ok, I have some aftermarket rims with 215/45R/17 tires on my 1986.5 Mk3. what is the largest width I can fit? I was thinking 225 or 235 toyo proxes (I forgot the actual type of proxes). Also should I throw wider tires in the back and narrower in the front? Or will that effect the handling negatively? (like cause understeer) Thanks so much, everyone on this forum is always so much help!

if your rims themselves aren't staggered then i wouldn't personally. if you have all the tires the same then you can rotate them and get more life out of them

yea that sounds like a good idea, thanks, anyone know about the larger sizing, i want to fit the largest possible but i dont want to have to roll the fenders or do any other modifications to the wheel wells because im only seventeen and am not very skilled at much of anything lol!

It depends on the width of the rim. You don't necessarily want to go with the widest tire on the rim. If you want it for handling, just get a good tire rather than a wider tire. I'll give you an example I had a friend who had 215s which was probably the max you really wanted to go on the rim he had, but decided to go with 225s because it fits. Well his handling decreased because his sidewalls now had the ballooning effect and decreased the strength of the sidewalls.
