changed turbo and now the car wont start

I have been working on my 90 supra Turbo for a year now.

I changed the head and gasket ! decided to upgrade the exhaust manifold and turbo.
I also installed a fuel pressure regulator....
I need help !
Got everything mounted the car turns over but wont start !

1, the intercooler piping gets really hot just cranking the engine over !
2,Fuel Pressure only builds up when cranking
3,The car will start half arsed when I spray starter fluid pops and backfires!

Im dying to get this car going can someone help me or give me a hint

Any codes? Have you checked the mechanical timing as well as your CPS alignment?

venomstreetmachine 06-25-2009 01:51 PM

Yep, Timing is spot on ! But I will check it again !
I have great compression !

Would you happen to know what the fuel Pressure should be? and if the EFI system should pressure up when the ignition is turned on? or when I turn it over?
Thanks for any help !

Fuel pressure for the GTE is supposed to be 33-40 lbs with the key in the ON position without the engine running. There are different procedures of checking the fuel pressure at idle, here's a link...

I appreciate the help ! But whats happening is... when I turn on the key nothing happens, the dash lights up but no fuel pressure ! I only get pressure when i am cranking.

Have you checked the EFI fuse? Is the fuel pump getting power?

btwilson86 06-30-2009 03:21 AM

Fuel pump does NOT turn on when the key is just in the on position. It only starts pumping once the engine starts turning over.

It sounds alot like a timing issue... you said that the timing is spot on. Are you 100% positive that the cps was placed on the compression stroke and not on the exhaust stroke?

hey sorry to kinda hijack but how would u know if its on the compression or combustion stroke?

cps

check te cps...cam position sensor...take off the 3 screws on the side with the engine at Top Dead Center and check to see if the cam is in the right spot...check this out,

You've got to jump a couple of wires to do the ON position test per the TSRM... +B and Fp iirc.
