Backfire...
Car has been stripped to make a road race car. Just got it back from having a new head gasket put on it. Car is hard to start. And it back fires when it gets to 5k????? timimg is set to 10 deg with the pins on the check plug wired together... all of the emmisions has been taken off and gone. any help would be great. thanks micheal

Timing is off, either at the distributor or at the timing belt. BTW, without the EGR (unless you're running a JDM ECU) you're going to be more likely to run lean and have detonation issues which could ruin your whole day.
Not familiar with a "check plug", I'll have to look into that. |

Sounds like your mechanical timing could be off. Verify that with the engine at TDC, both of your cam gear timing marks lign up with the mark on the back of the timing cover (little raised mark that points straight up right behind the cam gears). If you have to reset the cam at all, make sure you recheck your ignition timing, just as you did. Also, while timing, pull your jumper wire from the diagnostic port and verify that the timing advances to at least 12 degrees btdc
