general mk3 info please

ok well there is a 87 mk3 for sale for 500 dollars around here(non-turbo). it is pretty beat up, doesent have ac or any of those lux things. but thats ok seeing as how i will have another car to get me around in. i was just wondering what are the differences in the engine between the turbo and non turbo versions. also if there are large differences between the 2 engines how much would a long block turbo engine cost. im assuming it is very easy to convert the non turbo car to the turbo engine. with the only changes being the ecu and a couple of wires. this car would be destined to become my autox beater. and one last thing how well would the NA engine take a turbo being put onto it, and what kinda boost could i run on it?
