decking block, reuse most parts.
My son bought a 1990 Cressida, with the 7-mge engine. I warned him about BHG, but he bought anyway. The car has only 105,000 miles. He noticed coolant loss, and the block tester from NAPA showed BHG. When I took the head off, I noticed that it appeared almost brand new. All gaskets and hoses as well. There is no coolant in the oil, or oil in the coolant. The block deck has shallow craters between the cyinder and the water jacket. I know that the block has to come out and be taken apart before the block gets decked. Since he is without a job, money is a concern. I am considering putting it back together using all the old parts, like the pistons and old rings and the old bearings as well. Just new gaskets of course. I figure that as long as all the old parts go back where they were, all will ge good. I might replace bearings if needed. This is assuming things look ok of course. Does this approach make sense to all of you?
